What's New on MyFlightbook

Return to previous page

8/13/2010 Added support for an alternate category/class on a flight-by-flight basis. Usually, the category/class is determined by the make/model of the airplane used for the flight.  For example, a C-172 is ASEL.  But if you fly an amphib, or a plane that spends part of the year on floats and part on wheels, you may need to specify an alternative category/class on a per-flight basis.
5/25/10 Added support for editing new airstrips and nav-aids, so if we don't have something you think we should have, you can add it!
5/20/10 Major rewrite of part 61.57 currency computations. ATD's/FTD's are now supported, as are the new combinations for currency as updated in October 2009. Glider IFR currency is also now supported.
5/10/10 FINALLY you can post to Facebook as easily as you can post to twitter. Check the box to post to facebook and MyFlightbook will write to your wall on your behalf.
5/2/10 If you prefer to enter times in Hours/Minutes (HH:MM), you can now modify your profile to do this.
3/11/10 Added additional custom properties for checkrides, BFRs, and IPCs.  If you have an IPC or an instrument checkride, that will count towards instrument currency.
2/28/10 Added custom properties for flights - you can now add arbitrary values such as specific approach types or times or other kinds of data to your flights.

11/23/09 Added ability to search for flights with specific characteristics, such as holds or approaches or night landings.
9/19/09 Added support for attaching arbitrary CSV data to individual flights to track telemetry data.  Still in beta.  More information here.
9/15/09 Updated landings so that you can specify full-stop landings (important for tailwheel/nighttime currency).  These don't show by default.  This can affect earlier currency computations.  This also means that any night-time or tailwheel currency from flights entered prior to 9/15/2009 will be wiped out, since landings will not be assumed to be appropriately qualified.  Please accept my apologies for this; it's easy to fix the relevant fields, though.
9/9/09 Numerous improvements over the past month or so:
  • New layout for the home page, including the ability to directly enter new flights
  • New trend charts: see how your flying waxes and wanes throughout the year (on the Logbook page)
  • Reworked flight simulators.  This had been treated as a pseudo-category/class, which was bogus.  Now any aircraft can be considered a "real aircraft" or one of 3 certification levels of simulator (so that MyFlightbook knows whether or not to count approaches and landings towards flying currency).
  • Reworked Category/Class/Type.  The system had been biased towards ASEL/AMEL/ASES/AMES; computing currency or totals for other categories/classes was difficult or impossible.  The system is now much more flexible and supports any Category/Class/Type in the logbook, in computing flying currency, and in computing totals.
  • Added several administrative tools.
  • Numerous bug fixes.
8/4/09 MyFlightbook has moved away from requiring a username.  You can now sign in with your email address and your password.  If you change your email address, you can sign in with your new email address.
7/9/09 Updated the profile so that you can track your medical and BFR dates and configure Twitter.
6/17/09 Added maintenance records (annual, VOR, 100hr, etc.) to aircraft.  If you wish to track this for any airplane, you can do so and you will be notified when the next inspection is due.
6/10/09 Added ability to post individual flights up to Facebook.
5/27/09 A number of changes:
  • Added support for Twitter - MyFlightbook can now tweet when you add or edit a flight
  • Improved iPhone support
  • Added a generic search box to the header.
  • Instrument currency now uses calendar months rather than sliding 180-day windows
  • Miscellaneous other small issues cleaned up.
10/22/08 Searching and filtering is much cleaner now. I've removed the separate search page and replaced it with an integrated search on the logbook page. The UI should be a lot cleaner now, and it tells you exactly what the filter is that is applied.
10/4/08 Picture handling works much better now.  The UI is much cleaner, you can now upload multiple images at once, and attach comments to each image as it is uploaded.  Performance has also been improved for flights or aircraft with many pictures.
9/17/08 Added a new CFI time for flights - if you are an instructor, you can now track how much time you spend instructing.
Export to Excel now supports customizable column order and includes new hobbs/engine fields.
8/22/08 Entry of a new flight now remembers what aircraft you used last time
Added ability to track hobbs start/stop, engine start/stop, flight start/stop times.
Added simple REST web services.  Contact me for information if you want to use them.
3/31/08 Added gap information for currency: what do you need to do to get current.
Fixed a bug with airplane tailnumbers that resulted in duplicated country prefixes.
Fixed simulator time so that it doesn't count towards currency for passengers, only for instrument currency.  (Don't log it if the device is not approved!!)
2/24/08 Added MyFlightbook airport ID game on Facebook.
2/17/08 Added Airport Identification game
2/14/08 Added Google Gadget for currency
1/1/08/07 Added RSS feed for currency
11/15/07 Added auto-detect of mobile devices, mobile versions of totals pages.
11/14/07 Made management of pictures for a flight a whole lot easier and simpler.
11/12/07 Link to Airgem.com for cool weather map overlays,
Lot's of under-the-hood changes, new header
12/2/06 Added "Mini" support for phones/PDAs.
11/27/06 Added support for data import! Go to your Logbook to find this.
10/23/06 Flight Currency (FAR 61.57) computations now distinguish category/class
